Tonight, Vietnam time, the special aircraft carrying National Assembly Chairman Trần Thanh Mẫn and his spouse Nguyễn Thị Thanh Nga, along with the Vietnamese delegation, arrived at Blaise Diagne International Airport, Dakar.
Chairman of the National Assembly and his spouse began their official visit to Senegal from July 22–24 at the invitation of Senegalese National Assembly Chairman El Malick Ndiaye.
Welcoming Chairman Trần Thanh Mẫn, his spouse, and the delegation at the airport were Chairman of the Senegalese National Assembly El Malick Ndiaye, along with several members of the Standing Committee of the Senegalese National Assembly, the Director of the Protocol Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Foreign Affairs Advisor to the Chairman of the National Assembly of Senegal.

On the Vietnamese side were Vietnam’s Ambassador to Algeria, concurrently accredited to Senegal, Trần Quốc Khánh, embassy staff, and representatives of the Vietnamese community in Senegal.
Local people welcomed National Assembly Chairman Trần Thanh Mẫn and his spouse along with the delegation with distinctive traditional dances.
This is the first official visit of a key Vietnamese leader to Senegal since the two countries established diplomatic relations in 1969.
It is expected that National Assembly Chairman Trần Thanh Mẫn will hold talks with Senegal National Assembly Chairman El Malick Ndiaye; the two sides will sign a cooperation agreement between their National Assemblies to create a legal framework for strengthening relations between the two legislative bodies.
The National Assembly Chairmen of both countries will co-chair a policy and legal forum to promote cooperation in agriculture, trade, and investment between Vietnam and Senegal.
The National Assembly Chairman will also have meetings with Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye and Senegalese Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko. During the visit, the Chairman and the delegation will carry out various other activities.
Since establishing diplomatic relations in 1969, the two countries have maintained good relations and effective cooperation at the United Nations, the Francophonie, and the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU).
Trade exchanges between the two countries have shown positive progress recently, reaching over 81 million USD in 2024; in the first four months of 2025, Vietnam’s export turnover to Senegal exceeded 43 million USD, nearly matching the total for 2024.
It is estimated that there are about 3,000 Vietnamese and people of Vietnamese descent in Senegal, mainly consisting of around 300 families where Vietnamese wives and Senegalese husbands settled in the 1950s-1960s and their subsequent generations.
This visit is expected to create momentum to deepen bilateral economic, trade, and parliamentary relations.
