Ozzy Osbourne – frontman of Black Sabbath and the "Godfather of Metal" – has passed away at the age of 76.

With profound sorrow that words cannot express, we announce that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne passed away this morning. He was surrounded by family and deeply loved. We kindly ask for privacy during this difficult time."The cause of death has not yet been disclosed.

A few weeks before his passing, Ozzy Osbourne gave his final performance at the Back to the Beginning concert alongside fellow Black Sabbath members — bassist Geezer Butler, drummer Bill Ward, and guitarist Tony Iommi — in his hometown of Birmingham, England, on July 5. According to Black Sabbath’s official website, the show was described as Ozzy Osbourne’s “final farewell.”

Actor Jason Momoa, rapper Flavor Flav, and Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day expressed their condolences to Ozzy Osbourne on social media. On Instagram, singer Elton John posted a photo with Osbourne and wrote:"Heartbroken to hear the news. He was a dear friend, a great pioneer who secured his place in the pantheon of rock gods — a true legend. He was also one of the funniest people I’ve ever met. I will miss Osbourne dearly. Sending love and condolences to Sharon and his family."Sharon is Ozzy Osbourne’s wife.

The singer was born in 1948 in Birmingham, England. He rose to fame in the early 1970s as a prominent voice in heavy metal music, best known as the frontman of the band Black Sabbath. The band, formed in 1968, made a major impact with iconic tracks such as Paranoid (1970), Iron Man (1970), and War Pigs (1970).

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Ozzy Osbourne was one of the most influential figures of his generation and a key force in shaping the metal genre. CNN referred to him as the “Godfather of Metal.” The rocker was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Black Sabbath in 2006 and again as a solo artist in 2024. Over his more than 50-year career, he won five Grammy Awards out of 12 nominations and received a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2019.

In a 2019 interview with The Guardian, he described his illustrious career as “an incredible adventure.” He said: “It’s been a wonderful journey. I still vividly remember sitting on the steps of my house in Aston, daydreaming about what it would be like to be a Beatle. It feels like I’ve been in the music industry for 30 or 40 years — and it’s been absolutely amazing.”

In his personal life, Osbourne was married twice and had six children. His current wife, Sharon Osbourne, was also his longtime manager. The couple married in 1982 and renewed their vows in 2017 after a brief separation.
