The Vietnamese national volleyball team is competing closely with host Indonesia at the top of the standings in the second leg of the 2025 Southeast Asian Volleyball League (SEA V.League).
An impressive 3-2 victory over Thailand last night (July 18) helped the Thai team boost Vietnam's chances in the title race of this second leg. Currently, Vietnam has the same 5 points as host Indonesia but ranks second due to an inferior set win-loss ratio. Thailand and the Philippines both have 4 points, ranking third and fourth respectively, while Cambodia sits at the bottom after losing all three matches.

Cơ hội nào cho đội tuyển Việt Nam?
What are Vietnam's chances?
In the title race, Vietnam is at a disadvantage, having played one more match than its rivals. Coach Trần Đình Tiền’s team must defeat the Philippines in the final match tomorrow (July 20) with a score of 3-0 or 3-1. If Thailand then beats Indonesia after losing to the Philippines, Vietnam and Indonesia would both have 8 points (assuming Indonesia earns a full 3 points against Cambodia), and the championship would be decided by set ratio. If Indonesia beats Thailand, Vietnam will finish in second place.
Vietnam no longer controls its own destiny in the race for the title in this leg of the SEA V.League but still has strong motivation to improve on its performance from leg 1. The team gets a one-day break before facing the Philippines, which is a valuable opportunity for Coach Trần Đình Tiền’s players to recover from the intense schedule. In leg 1, Vietnam lost 0-3 to the Philippines, so in this rematch, players like Nguyễn Ngọc Thuân, Phạm Quốc Dư, Quản Trọng Nghĩa, Đinh Văn Duy, Phạm Văn Hiệp, and Nguyễn Văn Quốc Duy are expected to deliver an explosive performance, similar to what they did against Thailand.
