This weekend, Vietnam’s box office braces for two blockbuster “Storms”: Detective Conan 28 and Marvel’s 5-trillion-VND spectacle Fantastic Four: First Steps

Two cinematic giants are set to hit Vietnamese theaters on July 25: the 28th installment of the Detective Conan series and Marvel’s highly anticipated Fantastic Four: First Steps, a 200-million-USD (approximately 5,000 billion VND) superhero epic featuring a brand-new cast.

Even before its official release, Detective Conan: The Million-Dollar Pentagram (Movie 28) has already caused a stir in Vietnam, raking in 50 billion VND (approx. 2 million USD) from early screenings and pre-sale tickets as of the morning of July 22, according to data from Box Office Vietnam.

Meanwhile, Fantastic Four: First Steps—Marvel’s reboot of the beloved superhero team—marks a major milestone, finally bringing the iconic quartet into the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) after years of licensing issues. The film will open in Vietnam with both dubbed and subtitled versions.

Despite being one of Marvel’s oldest creations, the Fantastic Four had long been absent from the MCU due to rights complications. With First Steps, the team finally makes its grand entrance—complete with a boldly reimagined look and a fresh narrative, entirely separate from previous adaptations.

This reintroduction is no easy feat, especially considering the towering legacy left behind by earlier versions starring Jessica Alba, Chris Evans, and Ioan Gruffudd. The new cast—Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, and Joseph Quinn—now bears the responsibility of redefining the franchise.

Early reviews for Fantastic Four: First Steps have been glowing, with critics praising Marvel’s latest effort as a return to form for the studio.
