On November 6, the State Council for Professors announced the list of candidates who met the standards for professor and associate professor titles in 2023. Among them, Dr. Lê Thanh Hà, 33 years old (born February 9, 1990), a lecturer at the National Economics University, stood out as one of the youngest associate professor candidates approved by the State Council for Professors.

The newly recognized associate professor, who is 39 years old (Note: there seems to be a discrepancy in age here, as the text states 33 years old initially, then 39, then 33 again. I will stick to 33 as it's consistent with the birth year), is in the field of Economics, specializing in Economics. Economics was also the discipline with the highest number of successful professor and associate professor candidates (92 people, including 6 professors and 86 associate professors).

According to his application for the associate professor title, Associate Professor Lê Thanh Hà is an alumnus of the National Economics University, graduating in 2011 with a degree in Economics, specializing in Economics. After completing his bachelor's degree, Dr. Ha continued to work at the university, becoming a lecturer in the Department of Microeconomics, Faculty of Economics, National Economics University.

In September 2013, Dr. Ha pursued a Master's program in Public Policy at the National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies in Tokyo, Japan. After completing his Master's, he continued his studies at the same institution, pursuing a Ph.D. in International Economics until September 2018.

Following five years of Master's and Ph.D. studies abroad, Dr. Ha returned to the National Economics University in September 2018 and has continued his work as a lecturer in the Department of Microeconomics, Faculty of Economics, to the present day.

Dr. Lê Thanh Hà focuses on four main research areas, showcasing his broad academic interests and contributions to the field of economics.

1. Economics of Energy and Environmental Issues

In this area, Dr. Lê Thanh Hà's research primarily investigates factors influencing energy security at both national and global levels. He examines how investment and development in renewable and green energy affect global environmental sustainability. A significant part of this direction involves analyzing the conditions and factors that promote energy security and environmental sustainability specifically in Vietnam.

2. International Economics and International Trade

According to Dr. Lê Thanh Hà, the global economy is becoming increasingly complex due to the expansion of international cooperation networks. In this research direction, he concentrates on several key aspects:

  • Impact of International Conflicts and Sanctions: Research in this branch evaluates the effects of international conflicts and sanctions imposed by one nation on another. These sanctions not only affect the directly involved countries but also create spillover effects on surrounding nations, leading to serious consequences for the global economy.

  • International Trade Regulations: Dr. Hà studies rules of origin in free trade agreements, viewing them as potential trade barriers. He also explores the short-term and long-term relationships between exchange rates and the balance of trade.

  • Global Value Chains: His work identifies, analyzes, and assesses factors influencing countries' participation in global value chains, focusing on both the world generally and Vietnam specifically.

3. Measuring Digital Transformation and Assessing its Impact

In this research direction, Dr. Lê Thanh Hà aims to establish a standardized concept of digital transformation to assess its level across countries. He hopes to develop an optimal and most suitable index for Vietnam's economy. Furthermore, he analyzes the impact of economic digitalization on various aspects, such as energy security and environmental sustainability in Vietnam.

On an international scale, his research on this topic seeks to evaluate the multifaceted influence of digital transformation (especially in the corporate and public sectors) on political, institutional, environmental, trade, and international finance issues.

4. Monetary Financial System and Macroeconomic Policies (Monetary and Fiscal Policies)

The most crucial objective of this research direction is to assess the consequences of policy inconsistencies, policy risks and instability, errors in regulatory bodies' policy decisions, and related repercussions. From this, he proposes recommendations to rectify issues related to policy errors and risks, and to enhance the effectiveness of fiscal and monetary policy implementation.

Training Activities and Scientific Research

Dr. Lê Thanh Hà has successfully supervised four postgraduate students in defending their Master's theses and has completed three scientific research projects at or above the institutional level.

Notably, he served as the principal investigator for one state-level project (NAFOSTED project) and one university-level research project (National Economics University) or equivalent. Additionally, he participated as a member in another state-level NAFOSTED project.

Dr. Lê Thanh Hà has published 65 scientific papers, with 55 of them in prestigious international journals. According to the declaration in his associate professor application, these scientific papers were primarily published between 2018 and 2023 (after he defended his Ph.D.). A significant portion of these publications were concentrated in the last three years (2021, 2022, 2023).
